Schools & GroupsIntroductionOver 36 schools, the majority from Islington, use the Club's facilities and expertise as part of their curricular or out of school hours learning programmes. The pupils can not only learn canoeing, bellboating, powerboating or sailing skills but also valuable lessons in water safety, canal history, the effects of the weather, and the environment. We work throughout the year with schools for excluded pupils such as Project 16, Complimentary Education Centre, New Directions, New Turn Ventures, and Fairbridge. No external funding is received for this programme. Costs & Further InformationAge & Group Sizes...Our sessions are aimed at young people aged 9 to 18 who can swim 25m in light clothing. Our maximum group size is 12 per instructor. It may be possible to accommodate more than one at a time. We also welcome groups or individuals with special needs, and have full wheelchair access to our craft and facilities. To ensure safety it may be necessary to reduce the group size for people with special needs, disabilities or challenging behaviours. Activities available...We offer a range of water-based activities. These include canoeing, kayaking, bellboats, and launch trips. A whole day will include two or more of these activities. The group members should wear old clothes and training shoes/plimsolls and bring a change of clothes and a towel. If the weather is sunny a cap and sun screen is advisable. For more information about the different activities, including photos and short video clips, please visit the Activities Section. About visiting staff...Whilst the Islington Boat Club takes full responsibility for watersports activities, visiting workers are reminded that when not under watersports tuition they are expected to supervise their own group. Visiting workers are not only welcome, but encouraged, to participate with their own young people in watersports activities. The group will be given a locker and the group leader will be responsible for the key. You are reminded, however, that Islington Boat Club cannot be responsible for the safe-keeping of valuable items. About booking sessions...Bookings may be made directly with the Club through the Schools booking Form. Please telephone the Club to discuss your requirements and availability. Reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Full payment must be made two weeks before the first booking for the Summer Project, or the reservation may be cancelled. Bookings cancelled after these deadlines may still be liable for the full fee. Bookings will not be confirmed until full payment has been received. Bookings made within two weeks of the first bookings date should be accompanied by payment. If, for whatever reason, your group is unable to come, please let us know as soon as possible. An indemnity form must be completed prior to the start of the session. This will be forwarded to you with confirmation of the booking.
