Sports DevelopmentIntroductionThis aspect of our work seeks to develop further use of the Club and facilities by school, youth and community groups. It also aims to provide a range of sporting opportunities and pathways from beginner, through improver to national competition level, for those that aspire to this. This work has recently been boosted by a substantial capital grant provided by Sport England and the Government DCMS through the Community Club Development Programme and by a revenue grant through the Community Sports Coach Scheme. This latter grant only part-funds this post and consequently we have not yet filled this post. Although focusing on sport this area of the Club works closely with the Youth Club and Special Projects and so we use the sporting activities to focus on the personal development of the individual. Costs & Further InformationAge & Group Sizes...Our sessions are aimed at young people aged 9 to 18 who can swim 25m in light clothing. Our maximum group size is 12 per instructor. It may be possible to accommodate more than one at a time. We also welcome groups or individuals with special needs, and have full wheelchair access to our craft and facilities. To ensure safety it may be necessary to reduce the group size for people with special needs, disabilities or challenging behaviours. Activities available...We offer a range of water-based activities. These include canoeing, kayaking, bellboats, and launch trips. A whole day will include two or more of these activities. The group members should wear old clothes and training shoes/plimsolls and bring a change of clothes and a towel. If the weather is sunny a cap and sun screen is advisable. For more information about the different activities, including photos and short video clips, please visit the Activities Section. About visiting staff...Whilst the Islington Boat Club takes full responsibility for watersports activities, visiting workers are reminded that when not under watersports tuition they are expected to supervise their own group. Visiting workers are not only welcome, but encouraged, to participate with their own young people in watersports activities. The group will be given a locker and the group leader will be responsible for the key. You are reminded, however, that Islington Boat Club cannot be responsible for the safe-keeping of valuable items. About booking sessions...Bookings may be made directly with the Club through the Schools booking Form. Please telephone the Club to discuss your requirements and availability. Reservations will be taken on a first come, first served basis. Full payment must be made two weeks before the first booking for the Summer Project, or the reservation may be cancelled. Bookings cancelled after these deadlines may still be liable for the full fee. Bookings will not be confirmed until full payment has been received. Bookings made within two weeks of the first bookings date should be accompanied by payment. If, for whatever reason, your group is unable to come, please let us know as soon as possible. An indemnity form must be completed prior to the start of the session. This will be forwarded to you with confirmation of the booking.
